Built from experience — lived and clinical.
Storms & Stillness is founded by Dr. Jeremy Edwards, DNP, APRN, PMHNP-BC, a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner whose background spans outpatient behavioral health, residential and inpatient psychiatric care, and rehabilitation, detox, intensive outpatient (IOP), and partial hospitalization (PHP) settings — and whose own life gave him a head start on understanding what this work actually requires.
What is a PMHNP?
A Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) is an advanced practice registered nurse trained to evaluate, diagnose, and treat mental health conditions — including prescribing and managing medication. In Arizona, Idaho, and Oregon, PMHNPs practice independently, without physician supervision. Dr. Edwards holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) and is board-certified (PMHNP-BC) through the American Nurses Credentialing Center. In plain terms: he's not a psychiatrist (a medical doctor), but he evaluates, diagnoses, and prescribes. Therapeutic work — motivational interviewing, elements of CBT — is integrated into visits, within a PMHNP's scope of practice. When someone needs ongoing talk therapy, a counselor or therapist is better suited to that work, and he'll help make that connection.
Why “Storms & Stillness”
I didn't learn about adversity from a textbook — I grew up inside it. My parents loved me, but addiction made steadiness hard to come by, and when they separated I spent my childhood going back and forth between two homes that rarely agreed on much. By the time I was a teenager, that instability had caught up with me: I was removed from public school. From there, my path ran through alternative schools, boarding schools, a wilderness program, and time in inpatient behavioral health care — not observing that world from the outside, but living inside it, as a minor with no say in most of it.
I don't share that as a footnote. It's the reason I do this work at all. I know what it feels like to be handed between providers who never quite had the full picture, to be labeled before being understood, and to wonder whether your hardest chapter is also the one that defines you. It isn't. Every hard season I moved through eventually gave way to something steadier — and that process, more than anything I learned in a classroom, is what shaped how I show up for the people I treat now.
Still here.
The good parts of my life and the hard parts both made me who I am, and that combination is exactly what lets me relate to kids, adolescents, and adults in this work in a way that starts from understanding rather than assumption. When I sit with a teenager who feels unseen, or a parent who's out of options, or an adult still carrying something from years ago, I'm not guessing at what that feels like from the outside.
That path led me back into behavioral health: first as a counselor, then as a behavioral health technician, then as a psychiatric nurse, and now as a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. Storms & Stillness is built on the belief that our hardest chapters don't define us — they inform how we care for the people still living through theirs.

Experience across the full continuum of care
Time spent in outpatient clinics, residential and inpatient psychiatric settings, and rehabilitation, detox, IOP, and PHP programs shapes how this practice approaches every visit — with an understanding of what happens before and after a single appointment.
That experience also includes crisis intervention and motivational interviewing — skills built for meeting people exactly where they are, not where a treatment plan assumes they should be. It also means he works alongside the clinical teams at rehab, detox, IOP, and PHP programs as the prescriber for shared patients.
Licensed and prescribing in Arizona, Idaho, and Oregon.
The storm doesn't last. You do.
Storms & Stillness is named for that idea — that hard seasons pass, but the calm on the other side isn't given, it's built. That belief shapes the name, the brand, and the way care is delivered here.
Fully virtual across Arizona, Idaho, and Oregon
Storms & Stillness is planned as a telehealth-only practice, serving patients located in Arizona, Idaho, or Oregon — Dr. Edwards is licensed in all three. Additional states will only be added once licensure and payer requirements are confirmed for each one.
Insurance & licensure
The practice intends to pursue credentialing with several major insurance plans. None of that credentialing is confirmed yet — details on accepted insurance and rates will be published once finalized, not before.
