A Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) is an advanced practice registered nurse trained to evaluate, diagnose, and treat mental health conditions, including prescribing and managing medication. In Arizona, PMHNPs practice independently. Dr. Edwards is a PMHNP, not a psychiatrist (a medical doctor) or a therapist — he evaluates and manages medication, typically alongside a therapist rather than replacing one. The practice is being built to support children, adolescents, and adults. Exact age ranges for each service line will be confirmed as clinical policies are finalized, but the intent is to serve the full range from childhood through adulthood.
The practice is planned as fully virtual, starting with patients physically located in Arizona at the time of each visit. Additional states may be added later, but only once licensure and registration requirements are met in each one — telehealth rules generally require a provider to be properly registered in the state where the patient is located, not just the state where the provider lives.
Planned as a comprehensive evaluation — an in-depth conversation about history, symptoms, environment, and goals before any diagnosis or medication decision is made. Nothing about the visit format is being rushed just to open sooner than the practice is ready for.
No referral will be required to join the waitlist or to be seen once the practice opens. That said, if you're already working with a therapist, pediatrician, or primary care provider, coordinating with them is part of how this practice is designed to work — bring them into the conversation if you'd like.
What we treat, and how
Planned areas of focus include ADHD, anxiety, depression, trauma-related concerns, mood disorders, sleep concerns, and co-occurring substance use — always within our clinical scope, and in coordination with specialty or higher-level care when someone needs more than outpatient psychiatric support. Today, this is planned as a psychiatric evaluation and medication management practice — working alongside therapists rather than replacing them. Individual, family, and group therapy are being considered as possible future additions, but they aren't part of current planned services.
Prescribing decisions are always individualized and made after a full evaluation — never assumed in advance. When controlled substances are clinically appropriate, prescribing follows all Arizona and federal requirements for telehealth prescribing, including registration with Arizona's prescription monitoring program.
Yes. Dr. Edwards has direct clinical experience in rehabilitation, detox, IOP, and PHP settings and is glad to coordinate care with these programs' clinical teams, including consultation on psychiatric medication questions for shared patients.
What this will cost
None yet. Credentialing with insurance plans hasn't been completed, so nothing is billable to insurance today. Once specific plans are approved, they'll be listed here by name — until then, plan on self-pay being the starting point. Joining the waitlist means you'll hear about it the moment that changes.
Self-pay rates haven't been finalized, so none are published yet — we won't guess at a number just to have one on the page. Pricing will be posted here as soon as it's set, before you're ever asked to book or pay for anything. Joining the waitlist doesn't commit you to a cost or an appointment.

Therapists, schools & programs
They're two separate tracks. The patient waitlist is for prospective patients and families. The referral partner form is for therapists, primary care providers, schools, and rehab, detox, IOP, or PHP programs who want a psychiatric partner once the practice is accepting referrals — please don't include any patient-identifying information in either form.
For rehab, detox, IOP, and PHP clinical teams, program consultation on psychiatric medication questions for shared patients — separate from one-on-one care — is a planned service, within our scope of practice. Reach out through the referral partner form to start that conversation.
How your information is handled
Waitlist submissions are used only to follow up about the practice opening and aren't shared outside the practice, sold, or used for marketing. Full details are in our privacy policy.
